Jamie Macdonald

Director, Ion Consulting Ltd.

Having experienced a broad range of business challenges from start-up to multinational executive and board level assignments, I have a tremendous respect for kiwi business owners going for growth, especially those focused on achieving export success.

In any business, wherever it is in its lifecycle, there are usually far more opportunities for distraction than the business leaders have 'days in the hour' for, from channel to market, people management, operations, right through to shareholder and customer issues.

As an accomplished executive team builder, and former start-up manager with a background in Information & Communications Technology I can support business managers with practical hands-on advice across the business from sales, marketing and service operations through to product development, strategic planning and governance.

Every business is unique, often framed by decisions from the past as well as a myriad of seemingly daunting issues from today. What usually helps in addition to sharing the problems with others who have faced similar issues, is to separate out what must be delivered, by when with a highly visible series of tactical steps to get there.

Methodology:

No two assignments have ever been the same over the last 7 years however all start with an efficient structured discovery process to define where I can add value to mutually agreed objectives.

The goal is always to deliver the agreed outcomes, and where applicable, document the learning & development via models, reports and other knowledge transfer. I want to avoid any dependency or concerns of continuous consultancy. If I'm not adding value in your business, I want to get out of the way.

Examples of assignments I have completed include:

  • Input into a 5 year strategic plan for a nationwide retailer
  • HR support for a construction industry exporter
  • Business & succession planning advice- nationwide franchise
  • Capital raising for a hi-tech start-up- security industry
  • Market development plan, desktop software- marine industry
  • International marketing plan: enterprise software- printing industry
  • Value proposition development: enterprise software- Australia
  • GM New Zealand: Loss making turnaround- Services Co.
